776 children in temporary accommodation in Cardiff More than 776 children under 16 are currently being housed in temporary accommodation by Cardiff Council, according to FOI figures obtained by the Local Democracy Reporting Service — 431 (more than half) from single-parent households. Shelter Cymru's Robin White said no child should be growing up without a home, and that a "long-term" failure to build social housing has left thousands of children "trapped in temporary accommodation that can often be wholly inadequate for their needs". The council said it continues to face significant housing pressures but is investing in good-quality temporary accommodation and increasing social housing supply.

Xanadoo attraction presented at Pontypool public meeting Plans for Xanadoo — the hands-on technology and adventure attraction backed by Eden Project co-founder Gaynor Coley — were presented at a well-attended public meeting organised by the Pontypool Task Force, with leaders of Torfaen and Caerphilly councils among those attending. Supporters estimate the attraction could draw 600,000 visitors a year (700,000 in its first year). Green light for 84-home Carmarthen West estate — 42 affordable Plans for 84 new homes, half of them affordable (25 social rent, 17 low-cost ownership), have been approved by Carmarthenshire Council's planning committee, subject to a revised environmental assessment on the River Towy/Carmarthen Bay special areas of conservation being authorised by Natural Resources Wales. Developer Lovell Partnerships will also pay £458,178 towards a link road and a new primary school for the wider Carmarthen West site (earmarked for ~1,100 homes). Cllr Russell Sparks said the affordable element was welcome but voiced concern about effects on the Towy, given NRW has predicted salmon could be extinct in some Welsh rivers by 2030.

Llandudno retirement flats: charges up 18-21% 'an absolute disgrace' Residents of the seafront Cwrt Sant Tudno apartments on Clarence Road, Llandudno, have been told monthly service and building charges are rising by 18-21%. Peter Thompson, 77, an RAF veteran, said his own bill is going up from £808.69 to £957.53 a month — a rise of £148.84 — and that those on fixed incomes will struggle: "Residents have little choice in this matter and feel they are being held hostage by this decision." Around 40 residents raised concerns with operator First Port at a "rather stormy" meeting on 20 August, after the firm said the property had been underfunded for a decade.
