Current Situation

Plaid Cymru became the largest party in the Senedd for the first time ever following the 7 May 2026 Senedd election, ending 27 years of Labour dominance in Wales. This was the first Senedd election under the new proportional representation system.

Rhun ap Iorwerth is the First Minister of Wales, leading Wales' first ever Plaid Cymru government.
