Background

A career diplomat with deep IRGC roots. Araghchi served 9 years in the IRGC during the Iran–Iraq War before joining the foreign ministry in 1989. He was Iran's chief nuclear negotiator under President Rouhani, leading the P5+1 talks that produced the 2015 JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal). Known as Iran's "master negotiator" (Reuters).

Fluent in Persian, Arabic, and English. Held a PhD in political thought from the University of Kent.
